Details: This 2 day workshop will provide 2 glorious days of fun building with clay. Children will make at least 2 clay projects and learn how to sculpt, join texture and colour from clay. The pieces will be bisque and glazed fired and ready for pick up in 3 weeks.

Bring Lunch: Plus morning and afternoon snacks. Please do not ring any peanut containing foods PLEASE.

General information

The classes run as follows: –

• 5 to 8 year olds from 10 am to 12 pm 
• 9 + year olds from 2 to 4 pm

Parents /carers are welcome to stay, however if bringing toddlers please supervise as we cannot provide activities for them too and the studio is full of breakable pottery.  There are local parks, cafes and shops nearby.

All our teachers are qualified and hold current Working with Children compliance  

NB: If your child / children have behavioural or medical conditions that require additional help, please stay for the entire session.

1. Peppa Pig Clay Family

Description

In this workshop children will create colourful clay piggy family based on the popular children’s story book. They will be using clay and non toxic coloured clays to decorate this pig family. Pieces will be dried, bisque fired and then clear glazed, ready for collection in 3 weeks. You will receive an email when they are ready to collect.

2. Underwater world

Date:   Thursday 12 July

Age:      5 to 8 year olds

Time:   10 am to 12 pm

Description

Children will create a fantasy underwater scene using clay, slips and textures. From crabs to octopus, fish and sea weeds, this world will be brightly coloured using paint on clay slips. Pieces will be dried, bisque fired and then clear glazed, ready for collection in 3 weeks. You will receive an email when they are ready to collect.

3. Medieval Castles

Description

In this workshop children will create fantasy castles with fortified walls and gargoyles using clay and textures.  Pieces will be dried, bisque fired and then clear glazed ready for collection in 3 weeks. You will receive an email when they are ready to collect.

4. Sculptural Book Ends

Date:   Thursday 12 July

Age:      9+ years

Time:    2 to 4 pm

Description

Children will create their favourite animal or hero figure and attach it to a right angle of clay that will hold books in place. The bookends will be coloured using paint-on clay slips. . Pieces will be dried, bisque fired and then clear glazed, ready for collection in 3 weeks. You will receive an email when they are ready to collect.

5. Fluffy Clay Animal

Description

In this workshop children will create their favourite dog , cat , bunny or other animal and learn how to make cover it with clay slip , add texture to make it look fluffy .  They will be using clay and non toxic coloured clays to decorate their animal. Pieces will be dried , bisque fired and then clear glazed , ready for collection in 3 weeks . You will receive an email when they are ready to collect.

6. Flower Land

Date:   Thursday 19 July

Description

Children will create a fantasy park or garden complete with trees, flowers, ponds and grass from clay and coloured slips.  Pieces will be dried, bisque fired and then clear glazed, ready for collection in 3 weeks. You will receive an email when they are ready to collect.

7. Figurines

8. House plaques

Description

Children will design a ceramic a unique weatherproof wall tile for their house or apartment complete with house number or name. They will learn about clay slab work, design concepts and how to colour using paint-on clay slips. . Pieces will be dried, bisque fired and then clear glazed, ready for collection in 3 weeks. You will receive an email when they are ready to collect.

Under the sea        Age:  5 to 8 years

Date: Wednesday 12 July

Description

In this workshop the children will have fun creating a fish sculpture on a rock using basic hand building techniques. They will add colour using to decorate using coloured slips. The work will later be fired and glazed by our staff, and ready to be collected in about 3 weeks from the date of the workshop.

Description

Create a little piece of woodland magic with your very own ceramic rabbit. The children will learn some basic hand building techniques to create an adorable bunny. They will decorate with coloured slips and the work will be fired with a clear glaze.

Space – the final frontier

Age:  9 years plus

Date: Wednesday 12 July

Time: 2 to 4 pm

Description

In this workshop the children will design and create a kooky space alien. They will learn hand building techniques including pinch pots and coiling. Imagination is the key!  The works will be decorated with coloured slips and underglaze and fired with a clear glaze.

Jungle story – Full 

Age:  9 years plus

Description

What lurks in the jungle? It could be a cute little monkey or a ferocious tiger! In this workshop the children will create a jungle creature using basic hand building techniques, colouring their work with slips and underglazes. Pieces will be fired with a clear ceramic glaze.

Description: Growing plants is a great learning experience for children. What better way to make it special than to create your own character pot to grow them in?

In this workshop children will learn how to make a basic pinch pot and decorate using sculptural techniques and painting with coloured slips.

Description: Create your own little piece of magic with unicorns and dragons workshop. Choose your favourite magical creature and learn how to sculpt with clay and colour with slips.  This workshop involves basic hand building and painting techniques.

Picture Yourself Tiles

Date: Friday, April 21

Age: 9+ years

Time: 2 to 4 pm

Cost: $30 each child (includes firing)

Description: Using drawing and sculpture techniques you can create a unique self portrait on a clay tile. The tile will be suitable for hanging or other display. Children will be guided through the process and basic drawing and hand building skills are all that are needed.  Suitable for ages 9 plus.

Pieces are dried, bisque fired and ready to collect in 3 weeks.

 

 

This 4 week Children’s program is designed for children to explore creative ideas using clay. They will discover techniques to sculpt, join and colour and glaze their work in a fun and relaxed studio environment. They will take home their clay creations after they have been glazed fired.

Course Descriptions

 

Children Aged 5 +

 

Dory and Friends

Learn to make your own lovely Clown Fish or one of Dory or Nemo’s other friends. Kids will learn a range of hand building techniques to bring their wondrous under the sea creature to life in clay.

 

Animal ice-cream bowls

Using slabs of clay, children will slab inside a bowl & then add head & arms, using coils. Then cover them with slips. We will then make a spoon from a coil.

 

Fabulous Clay family

Children will create images of their family from soft clay, mums, dads, sisters, brothers a, grandparents, uncles, aunties and pets.

 

Hootastic Owls

Hoot Hoot! Children will learn a range of hand building techniques and add embellishments such as big beaks, eyes and wings to make their own owl hootastic!

 

Spring chickens

Using slabs of clay, children will slab over a bowl & add beaks, eyes, wings using coils, then colour them using non toxic clay slips .

 

Monkey madness

Children will learn how to create cheeky monkeys doing monkey business from soft terracotta clay using slaps and coil techniques.

Children Aged 8+

Pokemon Go!

Are you Pokemon crazy? Know about all your favourites such as Pikachu, Squirtle and Charmander? After making pinch pots, children will make their own Pokemon out of clay. *Please note that not all Pokemons are suitable for clay work. Your teacher will bring a range of suitable images of Pokemons that will be a great success.

 

Happy Homes

Children will use pre slabbed pieces of clay & coils to build a replica of a favourite room in their homes. Children can bring a photo or drawing of this room if desired.

 

Treasure Chests

Ahoy there!  Treasure chests invoke feelings of mystery and riches. Children will build a treasure chest and fill it with clay treasures.

 

Crazy Creatures

What will your crazy creature be like? Will it have a big eye and a huge mouth or 5 eyes and a square head? Will it be hilarious or scary? Children will learn to design their creature using pinch pots and a variety of hand building techniques

 

Kool cats – children will use coils of clay around a cardboard cone to form a body, adding a  slab head for cat, coils for tail & other pieces for eyes, nose etc.

 

Clay Castles

Using clay slabs and coils, children will build majestic castles from terracotta clay, adding turrets, forts and trapdoors.

 

Each session is 2 hours duration –  Monday July 4 to Wed July 13

5 + age          10 am to 12 pm          8+ Age          2 pm to 4 pm

Fun and creative workshops where the students will make and decorate clay sculptures  in  a variety of themed workshops. All classes are conducted in a safe environment taught by experienced clay artists. Sculptures are left to be fired and parents are notified when the sculpture is ready to pick up.

Limit of 10 children per class, so don’t miss out.

Please bring: old t shirt or apron, covered toe shoes, drinking water and a snack for short break (no peanuts please)

If your child has medical or behavioral needs, parents /carer needs to stay for the duration of the class.

After making pinch pots , children will add feet and hands to make a one of a kind egg cup to treasure . This will be coloured and fired.	From jars and bowls children will embellish with animal features such as beaks , nozzles and big eyes to create a unique animal pot	Children will be creating furry clay beasties from clay and coloured slips .

Turtles will be sculpted from pot forms. Tails , feet and head will be added to make your very own Myrtle the Turtle for your room or garden	A variety of shaped with holes in the them will be sculpted from clay and decorated with colour . These will be join to chime in the wind once fired	Terracotta pots are capable of absorbing water and children will be making face or animalpots that  grow sprouts (hair)  from their heads!

8+ Program

Children will work with leather hard clay and alter wheel thrown pots to create their own unique standing vessel. The pots will them be  embellished , coloured and textured

Using clay slab children will learn how to shape and pinch clay into shoe forms to make designer or pixie shoes.	In this workshop children will learn how to make winter animal forms.  Pieces will be decorated with colour and texture.	Using pots that have been cut in half, children will add crazy eyes and feet to make functional but comical vessels for everyday use in the home.
