Sydney Design Festival 2019 details

11 March, 10am–12.30pm

In this workshop, children will explore the joys of clay while raising their awareness about the endangered animals of our planet. The cookie jars will provide a reminder about the need to care for our endangered species.

Children will embellish pre-made wheel-thrown lidded forms to which they will add animal features using clay. The lidded jars will then be decorated with coloured slips.

Pieces will be bisque fired and glazed and will be ready for collection approximately 3 weeks after this workshop.

In Parramatta alone, over 30,000 disposable coffee mugs go into bins each week. Join this adult workshop and make your own personalised coffee mugs and cups that can be substituted for your daily disposable cup.

The ceramic mugs will be made with high fire clay, using a slip casting method or a hand building slab technique. A handle, if desired, will be extruded and added to the mug. The mug will be decorated with clay, texture or coloured underglazes.

Pieces will be bisque and glazed fired and ready for collection in 3 weeks from workshop.

Come along to this workshop to make a bold statement with your pottery.  Learn how to transfer photos and images of famous faces or political figures onto earthenware using decal prints on ceramic surfaces. Participants will create ceramic vessels, mugs, vase forms, or wall plaques as a surface for a call to action on topical subjects. Decal transfers will provide a long lasting display for thoughts that are close to your heart. No experience necessary.

4 March, 10am–12.30pm

In this workshop, children will create action figurines from clay. The Superheroes will be designed by the children and have their own special abilities and power to create and reflect the desired changes they’d like to see in the world.

This workshop will encapsulate movement and intention in figurines by emphasizing power poses and facial expression.
