Date: Sunday 6 and 13 August, 2017
Time: 10 am to 3 pm each day
Venue: PCAI Gallery and Studio – Shop5, 10-14 Hunter Street, Parramatta
Cost: $140
Day 1: participants will learn the basic techniques required to create a one –piece own mould for slip casting under the instruction of our master mould maker.
Day 2: Participants will learn the process for making a more complex 2-part mould and are encouraged to bring in a favourite item for recasting, such as a plastic or glass ornament, or you can make a clay model ( needs to be leather hard) for casting. Items must not exceed 15cm diameter x 8cm wide x 10 cm high.
Somchai Chareon is an experienced potter who has specialised in mould making and slip casting techniques, learnt in Thailand. His work has been exhibited widely and he has been a master presenter at workshops and seminars in Australia and internationally.

Somchai Charoen is a Thai born ceramic artist based in Sydney who has exhibited both nationally and internationally. Trained in industrial ceramic design, he was a former lecture at Silpakorn University, Thailand. Since migrating to Australia in 2001, he has worked commercially as a mould and model maker as well as establishing his ceramic homewares label Eat Clay. Somchai has been working with many artists, designers and ceramics companies including Ben Quilty, Hany Armanious, Rod Bamford , Trent Jansen Mud Australia and Bison Australia. He is a co-founder of Belmore ITCH, a residency for non-ceramic artist to explore and interpret the medium.
